  • Excellent value — the budget stretches furthest here after Vietnam

  • December is a wetter month; expect short daily showers in Langkawi
  • Langkawi's nightlife and dining scene is quieter than Phuket's
  • Fewer marquee 'headline' attractions than Singapore or Thailand

  • The most expensive destination of the four — the budget will be tight over Christmas

Budget fit — Tight at Christmas peak — achievable with a focused hotel strategy

Our recommendation

Vietnam for value and ease. Thailand for the family resort experience.

If Singapore is the family's heart's desire, we would advise starting the adults' visa application immediately — the requirement to hold existing UK, US and Canadian visas makes it the least predictable of the four — and holding Vietnam or Malaysia as a confirmed alternative in parallel.
